American Harry Potter -rock in Bäsna
Siblings Anna and Erik Fahlén have been crazy about Harry Potter since their childhood. In addition, now they've become fans of the so called 'wizard rock', and tonight they're arranging a concert with the American band Harry and the Potters at Bäsna Community Center.
Anna, 18, and brother Erik, 20, are born and raised in Bäsna. Already at a young age, they became fascinated by Harry Potter's world in books and films. Now they've expanded their interest to wizard rock, a worldwide culture phenomenon:
"It began as a joke when the American brothers Joe and Paul DeGeorge started to write lyrics about Harry Potter. They played a show for their friends and soon the interest towards their music started to spread. Now they have fans all over the world" says Anna.
Anna listened to Harry and the Potters on her iPod when she was 14. Now, four years after, she is arranging a concert with the band who are going to sleep over at the Fahléns' home in Bäsna:
"It's totally crazy, because Harry and the Potters are legendary! This is probably the biggest thing that's happened in our lives so far" says Anna and beams.
It's gonna get even better because their own band, The Swedish Shortsnouts, are going to be opening for the American band at three of their shows in Sweden.
Recorded on CD
There are over 700 wizard rock bands in the world. Each band has their own Harry Potter -characters. Anna and Erik's are The Swedish Shortnouts who appear in the fourth Harry Potter book:
"It's the most important reference to Sweden in the books. We took the name three years ago before anyone else could steal it. We recorded our CD in the living room at our house, and we sell it at shows" says Erik with a twinkle in his eye.
Dad takes to roadtrip
Harry and the Potters are in the middle of a Scandinavian tour, and play in Östersund, Växjö, Stockholm, Oslo, Köpenhamn and Bäsna. And guess who's going to to take a roadtrip, following them? Anna and Erik of course, and their father Mats:
"He sets up the car and promised to pay for the gas but only if he can come along" the siblings say and laugh.
The show at Bäsna Community Center takes place tonight, Thursday, at 9pm. The event is alcohol-free and open to all ages.
